Irwin Silon:


Irwin Silon was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, July 25, 1930.
 
Went to school in Charleston, South Carolina. Attended Porter Military Academy, graduated in 1946 and went to Virginia Military Institute, graduated in 1950.
 
Served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1952.
 
Moved to Los Angeles, California in 1960. Married in 1962 and moved to the San Fernando Valley in 1964.
 
Worked for Teledyne Systems in Northridge in the Graphic Arts Department as Manager until retirement for 10 years. Prior to working at Teledyne Systems, was self -employed operating a printing shop which employed 12 employees.
 
Served for five years, as a State Training Officer for the Junior Naval Cadets in Southern California and also belonged to the United States Naval Institute.
 
Active member of the Jewish War Veterans.
 
Volunteered services for three years with the Arleta Chamber of Commerce. First as the Membership Chairman, and on the Little League of Branford Park, secondly, as an elected Board Member. In 1995 was elected as the 1st Vice President of the Arleta Chamber of Commerce. Participated in bringing the Arleta Welcome Sign to reality which beautifies its location. Worked on the Community Map for the valley to implement the boundaries.
 
Currently a member of the Sun Valley Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors and on the Membership of the Governmental Affairs Committee of the United Chambers of Commerce. A delegate member of the United Chambers of Commerce, representing Sun Valley.
 
Member of the United Chambers of Commerce Health Care Insurance Committee and a member of the United Chambers of Commerce Educational Committee.
 
Member of the Board of Directors of the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley. Serving on the Valley Image and the Quality of Life Committees.
 
Member of the Valley Cultural Center, the Los Angeles Arts Council -Northeast Division, and the Valley Historical Society.
 
Vice-President of the 4th of July Celebration at the Hansen Dam Committee.
 
Member of the Los Angeles Mission College Advisory Council, lifetime member of the Alumni Board, and member of the Foundation Board of Directors. Member of "UNITE-LA Committee (Urban Network for Improving Training and Education in Los Angeles) school to career."
 
Executive Board Member of Valley VOTE serving on the Fundraising and Nominating Committee.
 
Member of the Foothill Advisory Booster Association, Foothill Division Police Department. Volunteer as chef of the Burns Manor Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner.
 
Vice President of the Foundation Board of Directors of the JEOPARDY "Balancing the Odds" Program. Also serving on the fundraising/event planning.
 
Board Member of the L.A.P.D. Coalition on Gangs.
 
Nominated for the Fernando Award 1996, 97, 98, 99, 2000 and 2001.
 
Member of the Veteran's Advisory Board - 2006 to present
