Pauline Tallent:

Pauline Tallent

Valley VOTE was in its infancy when Pauline Tallent joined, probably 1996. Valley Vote worked hard to break the Valley away from Los Angeles. It didn't happen, but as a result of the effort, the Valley is recognized and now receives more of its "fair share." Tallent joined the Executive Committee in March 2003. Tallent is currently chair of the Land Use Committee.

In the business community, Tallent is the Owner/Broker of Tallent & Associates, Realtors, doing business at the same location in Winnetka since 1979, specializing in all aspects of real estate. Tallent is currently on the Board of Directors of the Southland Regional Association of Realtor (for many years), and the recipient of the prestigious "Realtor of the Year Award" for the year 2000. Tallent also serves on the Commercial Committee.

Tallent serves on the Board of the Economic Alliance. For 29 years, Tallent served on the Board of Directors of the Winnetka Chamber of Commerce, and served as President three times. Tallent helped found the Winnetka Community Foundation in 2003, and currently serves on the Board as Secretary/Treasurer. Tallent has been involved with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program since it was resurrected in 1953, and her company holds an annual collection of toys. In 2007, the collection was over 600 toys, and the Marines had to order a second truck. Tallent is a member of the United States Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Association, a branch of the organization in Los Angeles that her late husband helped found.

In recognition of many years of volunteering, Pauline Tallent has been, for the past four years, honored to be among the five finalists for the prestigious Fernando Award.

In the past - and it is a long past - Tallent served as President of the West San Fernando Rotary Club; and on the board of Valley Village for the Developmentally Handicapped.

Prior to entering the field of real estate: Tallent was employed by the World Bank (Bank for Reconstruction & Development) in Washington, DC; the British Embassy in Washington, DC, and was "lent" to the United Nations in New York for a year, when they were still in the Empire State Building. Before that, 3 years in the British Army (Sergeant) attached to the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, DC. Before coming to the United States, Tallent served as secretary, Leasehold Oil Company, Trinidad, West Indies. Education was scattered, unconventional and sporadic: Kent, England; Nairobi, East Africa; Jamaica, West Indies; and Montreal, Canada.
