In June of 2005 Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa appointed Richard Katz to serve with him on the Governing Board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). Richard was first elected to the California State Assembly in 1980 and was the Democratic Leader in 1995. For 10 years he served as Chair of the State Assembly Transportation Committee. He authored Proposition 111, a 10 year Transportation Blueprint, which raised more money for mass transit and highways than any other effort in the history of California. He created the Congestion Management Plan, requiring cities and counties to measure and mitigate impacts of land use decisions on their streets, highways and transit systems. In addition to transportation issues, Richard worked on policy areas that included the environment, education, criminal justice and consumer issues. He also was California's lead negotiator for the landmark Colorado River Agreement between California, the Federal Government, four California Water agencies, and the six Colorado River Basin States.
Richard currently serves on numerous organizations in Los Angeles including the L.A. Children's Museum and Heal the Bay. He is the owner of a successful public policy and government relations firm, Richard Katz Consulting, - RKC Inc. Richard lives in Sherman Oaks with his wife Wendy and son Mitchell.
Richard's remarks will focus on the issue of transportation in Los Angeles and the surrounding regions and it's impact on the Valley and L.A.
Questions from the audience will follow each speaker's remarks. The public and press are invited to the meeting.
