Valley VOTE Press Release - The Oasis Project
Date: 12/7/03
The Valley VOTE membership has overwhelmingly
voted to support the conceptual proposal to build the
"mini-Staples" project in North Hollywood called "The Oasis."
This Arena is planned to be built on MTA property on
the Southeast corner of Chandler and Lankershim Blvds.
This intersection is a Valley transportation hub as it is
directly across the street from the North Hollywood
Subway station and just south of the Rapid Busway
currently being constructed along Chandler Blvd.
Attendees at Oasis events will have an easy commute from
all over Los Angeles with the subway and from across the
San Fernando Valley by bus.
The S.F. Valley has long been in need of major venue to
provide entertainment for family, friends and guests.
The Oasis promises to be a state-of-the-art 8,000 seat
facility built with private money. The timeline for completion
is approximately 30 months after final L.A. City approval of
all necessary permits.Valley VOTE intends to follow the
progress of this project as it unfolds.
This facility will handle a wide variety of events, such as:
professional ice and roller hockey; professional indoor
soccer, boxing; collegiate and high school athletic
tournaments; concerts, conventions, public meetings,
presentations and speeches; family events such as
The Ice Capades, circuses, Harlem Globetrotters;
religious events; and televised award shows and specials.
With the parking structure shared with MTA, and the
proximity of public transportation, this will be a win/win
situation for both The Oasis and the MTA. The hours of
operation of The Oasis are planned not to occur during
business and rush hours thereby mitigating vehicular
traffic. It is also planned to provide a significant number of
security personnel, both in the building and common areas
on event days. This will ensure safety for both The Oasis’
and transit patrons. It is also estimated that the Oasis
activities will create about 175 jobs and approximately
$30 million in direct taxable revenue for the city. It will also
bring additional business to the restaurants and galleries
in the NoHo Arts district.
Valley VOTE is a nonpartisan coalition of San Fernando
Valley residents, business people, educators, community
activists, and organizations. Valley VOTE is committed
