The Valley VOTE Board of Directors has overwhelmingly approved the following motion:

"Valley VOTE supports the current renovation plans for the historic North Hollywood Train Depot at Lankershim and Chandler Boulevards."

The historic North Hollywood Train Depot, at Lankershim and Chandler Boulevards, was built in 1895-96, and is the oldest historical building in North Hollywood. It is the last depot of its era, and is in the midst of what had been the town of Lankershim, which developed into a major retail, commercial, banking, and cannery center of the East Valley. The train depot represents the core of the area's history. The significance of being just across Lankershim Boulevard from the North Hollywood Subway station cannot be overemphasized.

The historic but dilapidated depot continues to deteriorate, and is an invitation to vandalism. It needs to be finally and effectively rescued, before it is demolished by neglect.

Respected organizations support the (long delayed) restoration and preservation of the 1896-96 Train Depot at its present location on the corner of Lankershim and Chandler Boulevards. The Train Depot site includes the Pacific Electric Red Car Station of 1910 and a 1919 pocket park. Those are the Los Angeles Conservancy, Universal City North Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley, Valley Village Neighborhood Council, San Fernando Valley College Museum, Toluca Lake Chamber of Commerce, and the Campo de Cahuenga Historical Memorial Association.

To quote San Fernando Valley community historian, activist, and Valley VOTE Board member Guy Weddington McCreary, " It is vital to preserve our history in the valley. This site represents the early development of the valley, and being across the street from the North Hollywood Subway Station highlights the future and shows the past in contrast for the generations to come."

MTA Chief Executive Officer Roger Snoble has recommended a Life of Project Budget of $3.6 million. Valley VOTE ardently supports the recommendation.
